ICANN now welcome feedback from the public for new gTLD’s such as .ART, .PORN and .APPLE. It’s simple to create a user account and give feedback to ICANN. The feedback might either be positive, negative or neutral. If you object any proposed new gTLD, the reason must be either string confusion, legal right, limited public interest or community reasons. All comments on objection grounds and comments for evaluation panels will be sent in to ICANN for evaluation. All new comments can be viewed by the public here.

Many objections for .PORN and .ISLAM

Art and pornography seems to draw lots of attention among Internet users. Obviously, there are many different groups and sub-groups in this area and there are also many applications for those domains. Here is one objection from Lois Lofton about new adult domains:

Lois Lofton object new adult extensions
“ICM registry already requested .xxx, with the understanding that porn sites would no longer use .com. This has not happened! Instead porn sites increased and expanded, along with the potential harm to unsuspecting Internet users. Family friendly sites may have to pay protection fees, to keep their domain name search from inadvertently leading visitors to a porn site with a similar name. Please reject the application for .adult, .porn, and .sex”, says Lois.

Objection for .ISLAM
Ahmed complains about the new proposed gTLD called .ISLAND: “ISLAM as the applicant dose not represent the whole nation of this religion. .Halal as the the applicant does not represent the whole nation of Islam”.

Support for e-Flux’s .ART
The people behind e-Flux’s application for .ART have succeeded to collect people sending many applications to support their bid. If it’s fake or real comments is yet to discover – but no other new gTLD have as much support as .ART at the moment.

Do you have any comments to ICANN about the new TLDs? Make sure to submit them before the 12 August 2012.
